Dr. Moore to Speak at Annual Meeting
“Who built the mounds in western
North Carolina?”

Have you ever heard of the “Moundbuilders” and wondered who they were and why these mounds were built? David Moore will talk about the Archaic, Woodland, and Mississippian, period mound-building traditions and will describe some of the dozens of mounds found in western North Carolina. Learn about Town Creek Indian Mound State Historic Site in Montgomery County, the Nelson Mound and Triangle in Caldwell County, and the Cherokee sites of Cowee, Kituwha, and Nequassee, all of which are now, once again, owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Of course, David will also talk about the mound at the Berry site.
